Ik wilde dus eigenlijk Monica’s shawl gaan breien, en daar ben ik ook mee begonnen. Maar de wol die ik daarvoor uitgezocht had bleek helemaal niet mooi te breien. Het werd wel heel zacht, maar het patroon verdween helemaal in de pluizigheid. Dus toen maar overgestapt op de blauwe streng Filigran Lace no. 1 die ik nog had. Deze enkele streng was echter niet genoeg voor Monica’s shawl, dus ben ik ook maar overgestapt op het kleinere patroon Haruni. 

Dit patroon bestaat uit patroon A dat meerdere keren gebreid kan worden, en patroon B voor de rand. In de beschrijving word aangegeven dat patroon B de helft van de wol gebruikt, dus toen ik de standaard keren patroon A gebreid had en nog een hoop wol overhad, heb ik een levenslijn opgezet. Dit is een draad (gewoon naaigaren werkt prima) die je door alle steken en omslagen op je naald haalt. Deze draad voorkomt dat als je een of meerdere steken laat vallen dat je werk onder die draad verder doorladdert. Hier is een veel betere beschrijving van een levenslijn.

Deze draad wilde ik gebruiken als ik nog een extra patroontje A zou breien en ik dan geen wol genoeg meer had voor patroon B. Als dat het geval was, dan had ik de boel uitgehaald tot mijn levenslijn en dan de steken daarvan weer opgepakt. Maar gelukkig had ik genoeg wol, en had ik de levenslijn niet nodig.

Ik was trouwens heel benieuwd hoe de kleurverloop uit zou pakken en ik vind het wel heel mooi geworden. Het doet mij denken aan een strak blauwe zomerse hemel die wij helaas veel te weinig te zien krijgen. Ondertussen hadden mijn jongens bepaalt dat zij ook zo’n mooie shawl wilden hebben, gewoon voor thuis om te knuffelen tijdens het tv kijken. Dus deze is direct ingepikt door Chris, en de volgende wordt voor Daniel.

So I really wanted to knit Monica’s shawl, and I even started it. But the wool I picked for that turned out horribly when knitted. The knitting was really soft, but the pattern completely disappeared in the fussiness of the wool. So then I changed to the blue skein of Filigran Lace no 1 I still had. However, this single skein was not enough for Monica’s shawl, so I also changed to the smaller pattern Haruni.

This pattern consists of pattern A that can be knit any number of time, and pattern B for the edge. The description indicated that pattern B uses half of the wool, so when I still had plenty of wool after knitting the standard amount of pattern A, I set up a lifeline. This is a thread (ordinary sewing thread works well) you thread through each stitch and yarn over. This thread prevents dropped stitches to run any further down. This lifeline I wanted to use when I knitted an extra pattern A and then to discover that I didn’t have enough wool for pattern B. If that was the case, I would have undone the knitting until the lifeline and pick up the stitches from the line. But lucky for me I had enough wool and I didn’t need the lifeline.

I was very curious how the color changes would work out, and I think it turned out really nice. It reminds me of a clear blue summer sky which we see not often enough. Meanwhile my boys had decided that they also wanted to have such a lovely shawl, so they can hug it while watching tv. So this one is already confiscated by Chris, and the next will be for Daniel.
