Mooie grote stop

Wat is dit stoppen toch een heerlijk werkje! Af en toe even opletten dat je goed geteld hebt, maar daarna lekker weven. En inmiddels is mijn stoprand klaar. De paar stofdraden die in de sterren nog zichtbaar waren, heb ik omslingerd als een soort rond lommertje. Hoort waarschijnlijk niet in een Marker stopwerkje, maar ik vind het zo wel erg mooi.

Het is echt leuk om te doen. Ik ben toch bijna twee maanden met deze stop bezig geweest, inclusief vakantie, maar ik ben het eigenlijk nog niet zat. Maar ja, de volgende les is ook weer binnen gekomen, daar wilde ik toch ook heel graag aan beginnen. Deze les gaat vooral over “utteren”, een techniek die een uitbreiding is op het stopwerk waarbij je je stof omtovert naar een soort van filet-raster dat je vervolgens vult met siersteken.

Het raster voor het eerste utterwerkje heb ik inmiddels al af. Op Marken kennen ze geen borduurringen, dus je moet met je vingers de spanning op het werk houden. Dit is nog best lastig, vooral omdat je als overtuigd rechtshandige dat moet doen met je linker hand. Regelmatig zat mijn hand dus in de weg bij het maken van de steken, of schoten mijn vingers van mijn linker hand in een kramp. Maar het is gelukt! En mijn randjes voor deze week zijn ook al weer af!

Pretty large “stop”

This “stoppen” is such a nice techniek! Every now and then I make sure I’m counting correctly, but apart from that it’s like weaving. And now my “stop”-border is finished. The few fabric threads that were still visible, I’ve wrapped like a round “lommertje”. I probably shouldn’t have done that in a Marker “stopwerkje”, but I think it looks better this way.

It is real fun to do. I’ve worked for nearly two months on this “stop”, including holiday, but I’m still not fed up with it. But the next lesson has arrived, and I really wanted to start on this. This lesson is mainly about “utteren”, a technique that’s an extension on “stopwerk” where you transform the fabric to a kind of filet-raster that you then fill with pretty stitches.

Meanwhile I finished the raster for the first “utter”-project. On Marken they don’t use any embroidery hoops, so you have to keep the tension with your fingers. This is quite tricky, especially because as a convinced right-handed person you have to do that with your left hand. Regularly my hand got in the way when making my stitches, or my left hand fingers got a cramp. But I did it! And I’ve finished my borders of the week!
