Vliegsteek of Open Kettingsteek

Ik ben de afgelopen week bezig geweest met de vliegsteek, ook wel open kettingsteek genoemd. Dit is een simpele steek, waar je een hele hoop mee kunt doen. Je kunt er hele leuke randjes mee maken, maar ook eenvoudige maar mooie blaadjes en bloemetjes. Ik heb ook gezien dat deze steek ook heel leuk te combineren is met andere steken, maar dat wilde ik in dit gedeelte van mijn prutsrol niet doen. Als ik straks een aantal steken gedaan heb, dan wil ik een oefening doen met verschillende steken samen. Ik weet nog niet of dat ook weer rijtjes worden, of dat ik een “plaatje” zal maken. Ik neig naar dat laatste.

Fly Stitch
The past week I’ve been working with the fly stitch. This is a simple stitch, fun to do, and it can be used on a lot of things. It can be used to make fun bands, but also simple but effective leaves and flowers. I’ve also seen it combined with lots of different stitches, but that’s not what I wanted to do at this stage of my prutsrol.

Once I’ve done a few stitches, I want to do a practice piece with different stitches together. I’m not sure yet if that’s going to be more rows, or if I’m going to make a “picture”. I’m leaning towards the latter.

Prutsrol

Laatst vertelde iemand me dat ze meedeed met de TAST challenge. Nieuwsgierig als ik ben vroeg ik dus wat dat was. TAST bleek te staan voor Take A Stitch Tuesday. Dit is een uitdaging waarbij deelnemers elke dinsdag een borduursteek krijgen en beginners gaan die steek oefenen en gevorderden kunnen met die steek gaan spelen. Dit wordt georganiseerd door Sharon B. op http://www.pintangle.com/.

Sharon heeft deze TAST uitdaging in 2007 en 2010 ook al eens gedaan, en uit de archieven blijkt dat er een hele hoop hele leuke en voor mij nog onbekende steken langskomen. Dus ik vind het eigenlijk wel jammer dat ik nu in week 12 pas achter deze uitdaging gekomen ben, want ik geloof nooit dat ik dit nog in kan halen. Maar dat maakt natuurlijk niet echt veel uit, ik kan nog steeds alle steekjes gaan uitproberen, zelfs de steekjes van 2007 en 2010!
Sharon heeft trouwens een hele leuke website, met naast deze TAST ook onder andere Sharon’s verhaal over haar 22 meter (!) lange en nog steeds groeiende bandsampler. Deze bandsampler heeft veel weg van de pronkrollen die we hier in Nederland kennen. Een pronkrol (Souvenir de ma jeunesse ) was een bewijs van bekwaamheid en bestond uit allerlei lapjes met verschillende technieken aan elkaar genaaid. Tegenwoordig worden er door verschillende mensen ook weer pronkrollen gemaakt. Toen ik die een paar jaar terug tegenkwam, heb ik zo’n rol aan mijn lijstje van toekomstige projecten toegevoegd, zodat ik in elk geval een excuus had om al die leuke technieken een keer te proberen.
Maar een bandsampler met allerlei steekjes vind ik ook heel leuk om te doen. Ik heb twee jaar terug veel plezier beleefd aan Emie Bishops Linen Band Bell Pull. En Sharon’s bandsampler gaf mij het idee om een pronkrol en een stekenrol te combineren. Mijn laatste Heart of my Heart stond bovenaan een mooie lange lap, en ik vond hem mooi genoeg als eerste onderdeel van mijn rol. Dus ik ben daaronder met de eerste steekjes van de TAST challenge van 2010 en 2012 begonnen. De steekjes die tot nu toe in 2012 gegeven zijn, staan ook in de 2007 lijst. Dus voorlopig laat ik 2007 dus even voor wat het is. Blijkt aan het einde van 2012 dat er nog een paar steekjes van 2007 niet teruggekomen zijn, dan kan ik die altijd nog aan de lijst toevoegen. Prutsrol (tinkerroll)
Recently someone told me she was participating in the TAST challenge. Nosey as I am, I wanted to know what a TAST challenge was. It turned out that TAST is an acronym for Take A Stitch Monday. This is a challenge where participants are given a stitch each Tuesday and beginners practice that stitch and more experienced stitchers try and make something special with that stitch. This challenge is organized by Sharon B at http://www.pintangle.com/.
Sharon did this TAST challenge before in 2007 and 2010 with different stitches, and if the archives are anything to go by, she uses a lot of fun and for me yet unknown stitches. So I regret not knowing of this challenge earlier, because I don’t think I’ll be able to catch up from 12 weeks behind. But that doesn’t really matter, does it, I can still try out all those stitches, even those from 2007 and 2010!

Sharon has a very nice website, with next to this TAST also Sharon’s story about her 22 meter (24 yard)(!) long and still growing bandsampler, which looks a lot like the pronkrollen we know here in the Netherlands. A pronkrol (Souvenir de ma jeunesse ) was meant to show the maker’s skills in various needlework techniques. Pronkrollen have been making a comeback lately. When I came across them a few years ago, I added such a roll to my list of future projects, so I had an excuse to try out all those techniques.
But I also like making a bandsampler with all sorts of stitches. Two years ago, I had a lot of fun making Emie Bishops ?Titel?. And Sharon’s band sampler gave me the idea to combine my pronkrol with a band sampler. I stitched my last Heart of my Heart at the start of a nice long piece of fabric, and I thought him good enough to be my first part of my roll. So I made a start with the first stitches of the TAST challenges from 2010 and 2012. The stitches presented thus far in 2012, have all been on the 2007 list. So for now I’ll ignore the 2007 list. I can always add them later, should there still be some stitches on the 2007 list that haven’t been done in 2012. Here are my attempts at Diamond stitch.

Gek wordt ik ervan!

Een hoofd vol ideeën en geen tijd om eraan te beginnen. En dan kan ik ook nog eens niet laten zien waar ik dan wel mee bezig ben geweest, want dan is het geen verrassing meer voor Teresa. Ik heb namelijk net een scharentasje gemaakt voor de scharentasje ruil van TheStitchSpecialists. Ik heb er uiteraard wel een paar fotootjes van gemaakt, en die zal ik laten zien zodra Teresa ze heeft ontvangen.

Trouwens, Papillon Creations gaat weer met een Mystery SAL beginnen! Around the world in 80 stitches gaat half april van start. Het is weer net als met Castles in the Air, aan jou de keuze of je bijna geheel kruissteekjes doet met een enkel simpel steekje, of dat je voor de 80 verschillende steken gaat. En je mag weer je eigen kleuren kiezen! De patronen komen compleet met hele duidelijke steken tekeningen zodat zelfs beginners de steken kunnen maken. Dus zit je al een tijdje van "die bijzondere steekjes, dat wil ik ook", dan is hier je kans! Ga gauw naar de nieuwsletter corner op Papillon Creations, en schrijf je in.

Ik had eigenlijk met mezelf afgesproken dat ik eerst een UFO af moest hebben voor ik weer een groot project start, maar die afspraak is dus het raam uit. Ik heb mijn stof en garens al bij elkaar gezocht. Helaas om budgetaire redenen geen speciale garens of stof, maar gewoon alles uit voorraad. En toch weet ik bijna zeker dat het weer een mooi geheel gaat worden

Maar nu ga ik eerst gauw aan de slag met al die ideeën. Je hoort gauw weer van me.

Because I just finished a scissor case for an exchange on TheStitchSpecialists. Naturally I did take a few pictures, and I’ll show them to you once Teresa has received the scissor case.

I kinda agreed with myself that I had to finish at least one of my UFOs before starting another big project, but that went straight out of the window when I read about this SAL. I have my fabric and threads all ready to go. Unfortunately, due to lack of funding I won't be using any speciality threads or fabric, just ordinary stuff from my stash. But I'm absolutely sure it's going to be gorgeous againb.

And now I can finally work on these ideas. Soon I’ll let you know what I'm upto now.

Nog meer kleintjes

We blijven nog even bij de kleine werkjes, want ik had nog een hart af te maken. Weet je nog dat ik twee versies van Heart of my Heart van Abi Gurden aan het maken was? De tweede moest even wachten op garen die onderweg waren, maar nu is hij dan ook af. Deze keer heb ik het hardanger hart met een Maltese Cross gevuld in plaats van met doves eyes.

En ik liep weer een stukje achter met The Great Escape, een SAL georganiseerd door Abi op TheStitchSpecialists. Dus die heb ik ook meteen maar even bijgewerkt. Hij begint echt tot leven te komen met die muisjes, vind je niet?


Some more little ones
We'll stay with the small designs for a while longer, because I still had a Heart of my Heart to finish. Remember I was working on two versions of Abi Gurden's Heart of My Heart design? The second had to wait for threads to arrive, but now it's finished as well. This time I filled the hardanger heart with a Maltese cross.

And I was running behind with The Great Escape, a SAL organised by Abi on TheStitchSpecialists. So I've added a bit to that. It's really starting to come to life with those mice, don't you think?

Voorjaarsmandje

Ik heb weer een cadeautje gekregen van Abi Gurden! Een prachtig mandje met vrolijke bloemetjes, gemaakt met allerlei steekjes. Dat moest gewoon geborduurd worden. Dit patroontje was voor alle leden van TheStitchSpecialists.

Abi had de bloemetjes gekozen omdat zij die zo vrolijk vond. Ik heb de betekenis er even bijgezocht:
het viooltje staat voor lieve gedachten, de primulaatjes voor ik kan niet zonder jou en de vergeet-me-nietjes staan uiteraard voor vergeet me niet. Ik vond het wel heel erg toepasselijk omdat ik dit borduurtje voor Pa en Ma in gedachten had, die onlangs naar Duitsland zijn verhuisd.

Spring basket
I received another gift from Abi Gurden! A gorgeous little basket with merry flowers, made with various stitches. I just had to stitch it. This pattern was for all members of TheStitchSpecialists.

Abi choose the flowers because for her they mean spring. I looked up the meaning: pansies mean loving thoughts, primrose means I can't live without jou and the forget-me-nots stand for remember me forever. I thought it was rather appropriate for an embroidery I intended to make for Mum and Dad who recently moved to Germany.

Dragons Galore

Ik ben van het weekend even bezig geweest met al die freebie draken. En ik heb nog 1 kleintje nodig op de plaats van de rode X. Het hoeft maar een heel kleintje te zijn, zo'n 30 bij 30 steekjes, maar hij moet wel gratis en legaal op internet te vinden zijn. Ik zoek dus nog even verder.

This weekend I've been playing around with those freebie dragons. And I'm just missing 1 small one to go on the red X. It only has to be a small one, about 30 by 30 stitches in total, but it has to be free and legally available through the internet. I'll just keep on looking.

There will be dragons

Tijdens mijn lunch pauze op kantoor struin ik regelmatig het web af, op zoek naar leuke patronen. Zo ben ik bij de twee patroontjes van mijn vorig berichtje ook een aantal patroontjes van draken tegengekomen. Ik ben gek van draken, dus die patroontjes heb ik uiteraard gedownload en ik wil ze ook heel graag gaan maken. Maar wat moet je met van die kleine borduurtjes. Ze zijn te groot voor in een kaart of als scissor fob, en als ik ze allemaal in ga lijsten en op ga hangen, wordt mijn muur een gatenkaas. Maar vanmorgen had ik een ingeving: ik zet ze gewoon allemaal leuk bij elkaar op 1 lap, als een soort van sampler.

Maar ja, een sampler met alleen de freebies van Teresa Wentzler is misschien een beetje saai. Dus ben ik verder gaan zoeken op internet, en heb nog meer gratis drakenpatroontjes gevonden. Zo heeft Dragon Dreams hier nog een paar leuke staan, en hier heb ik er ook nog een aantal gevonden van Ann Logan(ze heeft hier trouwens ook een paar leuke engeltjes. Als ik die allemaal samenvoeg, dan wordt het denk ik wel wat. Weet je nog meer draken te vinden, dan hoor ik het graag!

Maar eerst even gauw een update van Twilight Bridge.

During my lunch break at work I regularly surf the web, looking for nice patterns. That’s how I found the two patterns from my previous message. At the same place I also found a few patterns of dragons. I just love dragons, so I downloaded those and I also really want to stitch them. But what do you do with these small designs. They are too big for a card, or to be made into a scissor fob, and if I frame each and everyone of them, my wall will get way too many holes. But this morning I had an idea: I stitch them all together on 1 bit of fabric, as a sampler.

But a sampler with just the freebies from Teresa Wentzler might get a bit boring. So I continued looking on internet and I found some more dragon patterns. Dragon Dreams has some nice one’s here, and here I found some gorgeous dragons from Ann Logan(she’s also got some very nice fairies here ). If I combine them all together, I might have something nice. If you know where I can find more drakons, please let me know!
