Gisteravond is het een beetje laat geworden. 'T was echt niet de bedoeling, en eigenlijk had ik helemaal niet zoveel zin om wat te doen. Ik wilde gewoon een uurtje televisie kijken, en dan vroeg naar bed. Maar ja, terwijl de jongens nog naar hun programma's keken, toch maar m'n "Linnen Band Bell Pull" van Emie Bishop erbij getrokken voor 1 of twee steekjes. Maar uiteraard is het niet bij een paar steekjes gebleven.
Over het algemeen gaan bij mij projecten door meerdere stadia:
1. De opstart fase, waarbij het patroon gekozen is, en de materialen bij elkaar gezocht worden.
2. De eerste steek fase, waarbij alle materialen compleet zijn, en heel enthousiast begonnen wordt
3. Na een tijdje komt de gewenningsfase, waarbij het project helemaal vertrouwd is, en de aandacht verslapt. Deze fase eindigt vaak in de
4. (tijdelijke) UFO fase, waarbij het project stil komt te liggen. Maar met een beetje geluk komen we bij de
5. Oppak fase, waarbij er gepuzzeld moet worden om te zien waar we zijn gebleven, de UFO- en Oppakfase kunnen meerdere keren voorkomen, maar tijdens elke oppak fase worden er toch weer wat steekjes toegevoegd. Dus uiteindelijk komen we (hopelijk) bij de
6. Finale fase aan, waarbij het einde in zicht is, en de opwinding van een klein afmaak feestje toeneemt. Het wordt dan steeds moeilijker om het werk aan de kant te leggen. Let op: deze fase kent een hoog risico van verwaarlozing van huishouden en gezinsleden. Deze fase gaat over in de
7. HAPPY DANCE!!!
Dit project is een beetje een vreemde eend in de bijt. Het patroon kwam ik in 2005 op een beurs tegen en ik was er op slag verliefd op. Maar ja, al die moeilijke steekjes! Dit was veel te moeilijk, ik had nog nooit wat anders gedaan dan kruissteekjes en 1 hardanger project, maar ooit wilde ik me er toch aan wagen. Dus op m’n gemak begonnen met de opstart fase. In dit geval sprak het patroon over garens van Needle Necessities. Het duurde even voordat ik erachter was dat dit merk niet meer bestaat, maar dat de kleuren overgenomen zijn door Threadworxs (klik
hier voor een omsleuteltabel). Maar uiteindelijk had ik alle materialen compleet.
Inmiddels was ik ook begonnen met de Castles in the Air SAL, en daar leerde ik al dat de speciale steekjes er moeilijker uitzien dan ze zijn, zolang je maar goed oplet. Dus na de zomervakantie toch de stoute schoenen aangetrokken, en ben ik regel voor regel gewoon gaan proberen. En dat doe ik dus nog steeds! Doordat elke regel weer met andere steekjes bewerkt wordt, ben ik nog steeds niet in de gewenningsfase terechtgekomen, maar wel direct doorgestoomd naar de Finale fase.

Linnen Band Bell Pull nearing completion!I went to bed rather late last night. I really didn’t intent to, and I didn’t feel much like doing anything. I just wanted to watch television for an hour or so, and then turn in early. But while the boys were still up and watching their programs, I pulled out my “Linnen Band Bell Pull” by Emie Bishop, so I could do a few stitches. But naturally, it didn’t stay with a few stitches.
Normally my projects go through a few phases:
1. The Startup phase, where the pattern has been selected, and the materials are collected.
2. The First Stitch phase, where all materials are complete, and an enthusiastic start is made.
3. After a while, we reach the Accustomed phase, where all the ins and outs of the project are known, and the attention regresses. This phase often ends in the
4. (temporary) UFO phase, where the project is put aside in favor of another project. But with a little bit of luck we reach the
5. Pick-up phase, where we have do some investigation to find out where we left the project. The UFO and Pick-up phase can occur several times, but during each pick-up phase a few stitches will be added to the project. So eventually we (hopefully) reach the
6. Final phase, where the completion of the project is drawing near, and the excitement of a little finishing party is gaining momentum. It becomes more and more difficult to put the project aside. NB: this phase has a high risk of neglect of housework and family members. This phase will end in

This bell pull project is a little bit the odd one out. I found the pattern in 2005 on a fair, and I fell in love with it immediately. But oh, all those complicated stitches! This was way too difficult for someone who hadn’t done anything else but cross stitch and 1 Hardanger project, but someday I would give it a go. So, without rushing things, I began the Start Up phase. For this project, the pattern called for some threads from Needle Necessities. It took a while for me to discover that this brand no longer exists, but that the colors could be replaced with Threadworks colors (click
here for a conversion table). But eventually I had all materials needed for this project.
Meanwhile, I had already started the Castles in the Air SAL, and that had taught me that the speciality stitches look far more complex than they actually are, just as long as you pay attention. So after the summer holidays I took the plunge, and I started trying one row after another.
And that’s what I’m still doing! Because each row is done with new stitches, I still haven’t reached the Accustomed phase, but I did move straight into the Final phase.
